Back Covers — what buyers should check (iPhone 13 to iPhone 13 Pro)

On the iPhone 8 to 13 the glass is glued to the frame across the whole panel, so it will not lift off without a laser separator or heat. Apple moved to a serviceable rear design with the iPhone 14, so glass-only panels became viable on a wide slice of the range. Treat the 14 Pro and Pro Max as bonded models; only the standard 14 variants opened up the glass-only route. iPhone 13 is bonded glass-on-frame, which is what makes the full-housing route attractive on that model.

Rear glass and frame adhesive are sold together for a reason — a housing without the adhesive is an incomplete repair.

Specs and checks that matter

  • Bonding: On iPhone 8 through 13 the rear glass is adhered to the mid-frame, so glass-only work needs laser separation
  • Repair routes: Full housing swap, or laser-separating the rear glass and bonding a new one
  • Frame adhesive: The frame adhesive is the part that decides whether the rear stays sealed — it is supplied with the housing
  • Design change: From iPhone 14 onward the rear is more serviceable (14 Pro and Pro Max still use the bonded structure)

Buyer questions

Does the 14 series allow a glass-only swap?

Most 14-series variants do, because the rear became serviceable — but the 14 Pro and Pro Max kept the bonded design.

Is the adhesive pre-applied?

Frame adhesive is supplied, and it is the part that determines whether the rear stays sealed.

Full housing or glass only?

Both routes are supplied — full housing for a complete swap, glass only where the frame is being reused.

Which repair route should I choose?

It depends whether the frame is being reused: glass-only where it is, full housing where it is not.
