Rear Housing & Back Glass — wholesale buying guide (iPhone 14 to iPhone 14 Pro Max)

From the iPhone 14 onward the rear panel is designed to be serviceable, which opens up a glass-only route on many models. Most distributors stock both formats: full housings for shops with no laser, glass-only sheets for benches that already own a separator. iPhone 14 is available in both repair routes — the full housing for a complete swap, or the rear glass alone where the frame is sound. The iPhone 14 rear is one of the models where the glass and frame are bonded, which is why the full-housing route is often the faster repair.

Laser separation has become standard on the bonded generations, which means the tooling and skill requirement is as important as the part itself.

Specs and checks that matter

  • Frame adhesive: The frame adhesive is the part that decides whether the rear stays sealed — it is supplied with the housing
  • Design change: From iPhone 14 onward the rear is more serviceable (14 Pro and Pro Max still use the bonded structure)
  • Repair routes: Full housing swap, or laser-separating the rear glass and bonding a new one
  • Bonding: On iPhone 8 through 13 the rear glass is adhered to the mid-frame, so glass-only work needs laser separation

Buyer questions

Does the 14 series allow a glass-only swap?

Most 14-series variants do, because the rear became serviceable — but the 14 Pro and Pro Max kept the bonded design.

Does it come with adhesive?

Yes — the frame adhesive is included, since that is what keeps the rear sealed.

Full housing or glass only — which should I stock?

Full assemblies suit shops without a laser separator and deliver a guaranteed finish out of the box; glass-only panels cost less per unit but need the tooling and the skill.

How is the rear glass removed on an older iPhone?

On the 8 through 13 series the glass is bonded to the frame, so a laser separator breaks the adhesive layer before the sheet is lifted — heat alone will not do it.
