Sensor, AF & Connector — what buyers check (iPhone 7 to iPhone 7 Plus)

Fit is not enough — the sensor, the AF system and the connector have to match the phone exactly. Grade A means original-spec sensor and optics — in practice you cannot tell it from a factory module. A module for iPhone 7 has to match sensor, autofocus and connector together — a mismatch on any one of the three shows as a camera fault. For iPhone 7 we test focus and stabilisation on a bench handset before the lot ships.

A share of modules returned as faulty test perfectly on the bench, which is why photographing the fault before removal saves both sides a dispute.

Specs and checks that matter

  • Bench test: Focus and stabilisation are checked on a handset before a lot ships
  • Misdiagnosis: A share of "camera faults" are actually flex or software problems, not the module
  • Grading: Modules are graded A, B or C, and the grade is stated
  • Connector types: ZIF and board-to-board connectors are not interchangeable
  • Three-way match: Sensor, autofocus and connector all have to match the handset — one mismatch reads as a fault

Buyer questions

What testing is done?

Focus, stabilisation and connector seating are tested on each module before shipping.

What is the handling rule for camera modules?

Anti-static packing at all times, and never force the connector — a bent pin can damage the board.

How do you QC camera modules?

Focus test across the batch, a test photo per lot, connector-pin inspection and anti-static packing.

Why are photos blurry after a new module?

Most often focus calibration or lens alignment; dust on the sensor or a firmware mismatch can mimic it.
