Sensor, AF & Connector — what buyers check (iPhone 16 Pro Max to iPhone 16)

Roughly a third of jobs blamed on a faulty camera module turn out to be a torn flex cable or a software fault. Grade A means original-spec sensor and optics — in practice you cannot tell it from a factory module. A module for iPhone 16 Pro Max has to match sensor, autofocus and connector together — a mismatch on any one of the three shows as a camera fault. iPhone 16 Pro Max modules are focus-tested and stabilisation-checked on a real handset before dispatch.

Connector families are not interchangeable, so a module photographed from the front can still be the wrong part for the board.

Specs and checks that matter

• Three-way match: Sensor, autofocus and connector all have to match the handset — one mismatch reads as a fault
• Connector types: ZIF and board-to-board connectors are not interchangeable
• Misdiagnosis: A share of "camera faults" are actually flex or software problems, not the module
• Bench test: Focus and stabilisation are checked on a handset before a lot ships
• Grading: Modules are graded A, B or C, and the grade is stated

How do I know it will fit?

The sensor, autofocus and connector must all match the handset — send the model and we confirm the exact module.

Is the optical stabilisation real?

On genuine-grade modules yes; on cheap aftermarket units stabilisation is often simulated, so the frame still shakes under video.

Is the module tested before shipping?

Each module is function-tested for focus, stabilisation and connector seating before a lot clears.

How should modules be handled before install?

Keep them in anti-static packing and never force the connector — misalignment can break the solder joint on the board.
